HELP!!! THANK YOU COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD

All the help you can do for the #Philippines is very much appreciated and needed! Please donate to groups like Philippine Red Cross, Gawad Kalinga and other non-profit charity groups. Thank you everyone!

Humanitarian efforts by the government of Israel will soon reach the shores of the Philippines as more than 200 Israeli doctors, nurses and paramedics will make its way to typhoon struck areas.

The entire group will be setting up a mobile hospital in order to treat thousands who were injured.

Israel's mobile hospital is one-of-a-kind, furnished with the latest technology and equipment. It will be the first mobile hospital established by Israel in the Philippines.

Typhoon Yolanda devastated a number of municipalities in the eastern parts of the country – housing more than a million people. Israel's Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Menashe Bar on, immediately offered his government's help.

"We saw the destruction the typhoon brought, and Israel is ready to help. In past cases – where areas were struck by typhoons, we were there and assisted in any way we can. The Philippines and the Filipino people are close friends with Israel and the Jewish people. At this moment, our urgent task is to extend help to the Philippine government."

The team of medical personnel will also be accompanied by senior members of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Israeli Defense Forces.

In 2010, Israel established a mobile hospital in the aftermath of an earthquake which devastated Haiti and successfully performed minor surgeries and childbirth operations. In addition, a search and rescue team will assist military and police in tracking efforts.

Why we need fairytales: Jeanette Winterson on Oscar Wilde

"Far off, like a perfect pearl, one can see the city of God. It is so wonderful that it seems as if a child could reach it in a summer's day. And so a child could. But with me and such as I am it is different. One can realise a thing in a single moment, but one loses it in the long hours that follow … "

    Mathew Shlian

Ghostly International presents Matthew Shlian from Ghostly International on Vimeo.

Matthew Shlian works within the increasingly nebulous space between art and engineering. As a paper engineer, Shlian's work is rooted in print media, book arts, and commercial design, though he frequently finds himself collaborating with a cadre of scientists and researchers who are just now recognizing the practical connections between paper folding and folding at microscopic and nanoscopic scales.
An MFA graduate of Cranbrook Academy, Shlian divides his time between teaching at the University of Michigan, mocking up new-fangled packaging options for billion dollar blue-chips, and creating some of the most inspiring paper art around.
Ghostly teamed up with the Ann Arbor-based photographer and videographer Jakob Skogheim, to produce this feature short, which combines interview and time-lapse footage of Shlian creating several stunning new pieces.

    FACTS : 5 Color Facts

    1. Seeing red
Like a large number of animals, bulls are colour blind and can’t see red. So it’s a common misconception that a matador’s red cloth is what gets a charging bull wound up.
    2. Sticky light
Try ripping a piece of sticky tape off the roll in the dark. This separates positive and negative electrical charges – when they recombine, it creates a flash of blueish light.
    3. Slow sparkle
Want to slow light down? It travels at its slowest inside a diamond. Even then, it still manages a fairly impressive 124,000 kilometres (77,000 miles) per second!
    4. Whiter than white
Ever seen white clothes glow under a UV light? Laundry detergents contain optical brighteners, which emit blue light under UV to stop your whites from looking yellow.
    5. How many colours?
By measuring our eyes’ top performances, scientists have estimated that we can distinguish up to 10 million colours, though thankfully we don’t have names for them all!

    Musee du Quai Branly, Paris

A controversial new landmark for Paris, Jean Nouvel’s Musee du Quai Branly, is certainly unlike anything else that can be found within the city. The exterior is covered in a lush, jungle-like proliferation of greenery covering more than 650 feet. The architect used Patrick Blanc’s Vertical Garden System, which consists of a PVC layer, felt and a metal frame.
